It’s said – If you haven’t seen The Blue Man group, you haven’t seen Boston. Well I wont totally deny this claim, as if you happen to be in Boston, watching The Blue Man group live is worth the experience. One hour forty minutes of unique music, live art, use of great multimedia and an enigmatic play of light, sound and paint – is what this show is all about.
What to expect:
Giving out a strong message of our changing lives due to our growing addiction with digital media, the story weaved through this act is something to be pondered upon once you leave the theater, along with being overwhelmed by the music concert like environment which is created throughout.
The plot is unique – with three blue colored men coming to life and landing on earth, not knowing what to do with the simple things of human lives, like paint, marshmallows, pipes, food, candies etc. The result of their exploration into these products brings new perspectives to how a person from outer space would look at our lives, and what they can create with it – be it a painting, rhythm or genuine humor.
Tickets and Seats:
The tickets for the show are easily available online, although one should scout for deals well in advance. If you plan for it prior to your trip, you might be lucky enough to watch the show for much lesser. Generally available at a cost of $75 to $100, you can actually get a deal for as cheap as $30 per person.
Try Ticketmaster and Goldstar for frequent deals. I personally purchased my tickets from Goldstar, and got a good spot near the stage. The best seats would be the center, but the first few rows are prone to a lot of wet paint splashing all through your clothes, for which you will be given plastic raincoat to wear. Even if you are picking the balcony, I would not say you will miss the experience, as the theaters are well built for overall effect, but you will surely enjoy it more nearer to the stage.
- Food and drinks are available throughout the show, for purchase outside the hall, and you can certainly enjoy the act with beer along your side.
- Don’t miss to check for parking around the hall in advance, as you would want to reach on time for it.
- The pickup window is right at the entrance, and volunteers will help you find your way around.
- A fun day out with family, the kids will enjoy it too, and if you get a good deal – it’s totally worth a visit.
Although, on the downside of it, if you are a Broadway fan, and you are comparing the show to have a similar impact as of Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, or Wicked, then you can be hugely disappointed. The show is a mix of a lot of digital media and techniques together, and fails to leave an impact of a real theatrical performance if compared to the rest. I would advice, keep an open mind and visit to have a fun evening, without great expectations. The Blue Man group is all about fun, and that is one thing you are guaranteed to get.
