Hiking The Caldera Path

The Caldera Path in Santorini is famous in its own right. Indeed travelers make for this island specifically to tackle this three to four hour trail and behold its breath taking views. Due to the volcanic geology of Santorini and its neighboring islands, the cliff faces brightly colored contrasting rock formations that surround the path.

Start the walk from Fira to Oia – one of the visual highlights of the entire Greek archipelago. Once out of the main town, the paths are very peaceful and isolated. Visiting Skaros Rock is a must – the site of the ruins of a medieval castle destroyed by a major earthquake in the 19th century.

Visit The Boutari Winery

The Boutari Wineries consist of six sister wineries spread over the Greek Islands of the Aegean. The Santorini vineyard alone has been producing luxurious wines for over 25 years. An excellent and informative guided tour is open to the public, where you will experience local delicacies, learn about the intricacies of wine making on the island and of course enjoy sampling the produce!

Explore Santorini By Scooter Or Quad Bike

Renting a scooter or a quad bike is an excellent way to explore Santorini. There are around a dozen stunning beaches to visit within a short drive (between 4 to 12 kms) from the main town of Fira. Many believe that the most beautiful beach on Santorini is Kamari, just 10 kms south east of Fira. Kamari beach is overlooked at one end by a huge rock structure and has stunning turquoise waters, picturesque restaurants and a plethora of sporting activities available for families.

There are also many points of interest spread across the length of the island, including but not limited to the ancient Minoan town of Akrotiri, the Thera museum and the stunning Church Of The Holy Cross.

Kayaking In Santorini

Many people head to Santorini for its selection of kayaking tours. There are several kayaking tour operators providing organized trips for paddlers of all experience levels. The ability to kayak across the crater of an active volcano in crystal clear waters and through its huge central lagoon make Santorini a kayaking hotspot.

Tours include crossing from Caldera, visiting Santorini’s famous Akrotiri lighthouse (the oldest lighthouse in Greece) or voyaging around the southern tip of the island.

Santorini’s Hot Springs

Due to the volcanic nature of the island, nearby Santorini there are hot springs that the public can dive into and swim around – warm waters naturally heated by the volcano.
