Christmas 2015 is just around the corner, and its time for christmas trees, wreaths and beautiful Christmas bouquets. The shops are full of such pretty vase arrangements, but nothing can make you feel more festive, than making your own Christmas DIY!

The best part of living in a winter city like Boston is, you will have lots of pine trees, and wild Christmas bushes around you, in my case, I have some right in my own backyard. So, this morning while having a sip of my strong morning coffee, just the way I like it, I trimmed some fresh green leaves, and picked some branches, to make my own christmas bouquet! And this is how you can make one for yourself too…

All that you need:

  • Carefully picked Christmas leaves, with a touch of red in them;
  • Some broken branches, to add a earthy fall element
  • Jute thread
  • Potpuri/dried fall nuts or pines
  • Scissors
  • An empty glass jar to up-cycle

Step #1: Wash your leaves to make them look clean and fresh, and trim them with a scissors into an ideal size, according to the length of your jar.

Step #2: Collect some dried fallen nuts to fill the jar. I am personally a lover of scented potpourri, and hence I used a handful of it to add a touch of scent into my jar.

Step #3: Fill 1/4th of your jar with the potpourri, leaving enough room for the leaves and sticks to fit. A simple trick that I use for my jar, is to collect them over time, and once they are empty, I put them into the dish washer on a full cycle, which removes all extra stickers and labels stuck onto them, making them new as ever. If you do not have old glass jars, you can also buy a cheap pack of Mason jars from Amazon.

Step #4: To enhance the look of your plain glass jar, tie jute thread around it and finish with a bow after you have looped up-to your desired length. This adds an earthy touch to the whole bouquet, and make its look like a professional gift within seconds. Christmas DIY - STREETTROTTER

Step #5: Now Insert your broken branches and leaves into the jar like any other flower vase arrangement. In case your leaves are short, tie them on the branches to make them taller, using the same jute thread that blends into the whole look of the bouquet.

Your bouquet is now ready, and can be placed both indoors and outdoors. The arrangement stays for about two weeks with no need to water. And it is perfect for gifting it to someone during a christmas get together 🙂 Happy Holidays!
