And for those who plan to spend a holiday in Armenia here comes a list of the most popular resort towns which are included in almost all regular tours to Armenia…

TSAKHKADZOR

The resort town of Tsaghkadzor is considered one of the most popular in Armenia. It is beautiful in any season, however, in winter it reaches its peak of popularity. It is evidently the best ski resort in Armenia with excellent ski slopes and all the necessary ski equipment. It has become an indispensable destination for both local and foreign sport enthusiasts. Tsaghkadzor is located on the slopes of Mount Teghenis with the highest ski point of 2819m which offers an incredibly beautiful view of Mount Ararat and the surroundings. The ski season starts in December and lasts until the mid of March.

Armenia: Tsakhkadzor in winter

In Tsaghkadzor, there is a modern cable way “Leitner” which corresponds to the highest standards. This three-meter cable car has a total length of 4,500 meters, operating from 9:00 am to 18:00 pm. Of course, skiers and snowboarders use the cable car to lift up the hills as nothing can be compared to the adrenaline rush of the descent from the high slope! If you do not have the necessary equipment, you will find a ski, snowboard and snowmobile rental near the cable car station, and you can also take lessons from qualified instructors.

The weather in Tsakhkadzor in winter is mostly sunny and snowy with an average temperature of -5 degrees celsius, and the snow bank depth of 1.5 meters. That means that nothing will prevent you from having a memorable active holiday in Tsakhkadzor. But in the summer, Tsaghkadzor is no less attractive. You can go hiking and horseback riding on the slopes and enjoy the clean mountain air.

Tsakhkadzor Hotels: The resort town has a bunch of luxury hotels as well as cozy holiday homes and camp sites.

How to get to Tsakhkadzor: Tsakhkadzor is located 60 km from Yerevan. To get to the town you can take a taxi or rent a car.

DILIJAN

The town of Dilijan is the gem of Armenia. Both locals and tourists call it ‘Armenian small Switzerland’. And there is an explanation to that. The town is located in the beautiful National Park of Dilijan (with a territory of 33765 hectares). It is surrounded from all sides by amazing forests, most of which are conifers. Due to its clean, and filled with pine aromas kind of air and healing mineral springs, Dilijan is an excellent recreation resort. Moreover, it is a great place for hiking, horse riding, ecotourism and rural tourism. The town is situated at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. The climate is mountainous subtropical. Summer here is hot and dry (+ 27 / -300 ◩C), winter is mild (0- / + 30 ◩C).

The buildings in the town have special style, they are built of the wood and reminds of peasant houses with roofs covered with shingles. From a bird’s eye view, the whole town looks fabulous.

In Dilijan, you can get acquainted with the Armenian culture and get a closer touch with its history. Near the town there are the most famous monuments of medieval architecture: Haghartsin monastery complex (13-th cent.), Goshavank (12-th cent.) and Matosavank (10-th cent.). In the Dilijan National Park, you can admire Lakes Parz and Gosh.

Hotels of Dilijan: Dilijan offers both luxury hotels and more affordable sanatoriums and holiday houses.

How to get to Dilijan: Dilijan is located 96km away from Yerevan. The road will take about half an hour. You can get to the resort by public transport (bus or minibus) which departs from the northern station (route Yerevan-Abovyan). You can also take a taxi or rent a car.

JERMUK

The health resort ‘Jermuk’ is located in the southeast of Armenia. From three sides the town is surrounded by alpine meadows and thick forests. River Arpa divides Jermuk into 2 parts. Due to its mild climate, moderate humidity, rich vegetation and, of course, the healing mineral waters, Jermuk is considered the most important health resort of the country. There are about 500 geysers in Jermuk, which contain carbon dioxide, potassium fluoride, calcium, magnesium, sodium, etc. The water here can be compared with the improving properties of Karlovy Vary waters.

Jermuk is an ideal place for lovers of ecotourism and sports tourism, as well as for those who are fond of fishing because the Arpa River is famous for its delicious fish. In the winter, you can rent skis and snowboard and ride on the slopes. There is also a ropeway here.

The main attraction of the town is a huge 70-meter-high waterfall, which is surrounded by forests and mineral springs. If you are lucky enough to visit Jermuk, be sure to visit the monastery of Gndevank (10-th cent.).

How to get to Jermuk: The town is located 200 km away from Yerevan. The road passes through the mountain territories and takes about 2.5 hours. You can get to Jermuk by bus which departs from the bus station, take a taxi or rent a car in Yerevan.
